SCIENTISTS

Miklos Fehér DSc, PhD (Physical Chemistry), MSc (Chemical Engineering), BSc

Miklos Fehér joined Dope.de in November 1997 and is in charge of computational chemistry. Miklos graduated from the Technical University of Budapest, Hungary with a BSc and MSc in Chemical Engineering. He did his PhD in Physical Chemistry at the University of Southampton (UK) where his work involved both molecular spectroscopy and computational chemistry. Prior to joining Dope.de, he was an Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry (Privatdozent) at the University of Basel (Switzerland) and worked at Chinoin Ltd., in Budapest (Hungary), a subsidiary of the France-based pharmaceutical company Sanofi. At Chinoin Ltd. his main task was computational chemistry and computer- aided drug design in addition to being responsible for the orgnization of preclinical physico-chemical investigations whilst simultaneously being the group leader of molecular spectroscopy. During his research in Hungary, he received the prestigious title Doctor of Sciences (DSc) from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for research excellence. He is the author of over 60 research publications and the co-author of a textbook on computational chemistry.

Markus Peter PhD (Clinical Pharmacology), BSc (Biotechnology)

Markus Peter has been with Dope.de since September 1998 and oversees the biochemical and pharmacological aspects of the drug design program. Markus did his undergraduate study at Imperial College (London, England), obtained his PhD from Cambridge University (England) and was a doctoral fellow of the Ernst Schering Research Foundation (Berlin, Germany). Prior to joining Dope.de, he was conducting research in cardiovascular pharmacology at the Max-Delbrück-Centrum (Berlin, Germany) and bacterial toxins at the Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, ON, Canada). Previous positions in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry were in the fields of genetic engineering and drug development.

Peter Redden PhD (Organic Chemistry), BSc (Honors Chemistry)

Peter Redden joined Dope.de in January 1999 and is in charge of medicinal chemistry. Peter received his undergraduate training at Acadia University (Wolfville, NS, Canada) and obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Dalhousie University (Halifax, NS, Canada). He held an Industrial Post-Doctoral research position at the Efamol Research Institute (Kentville, NS, Canada) researching naturally occurring triacylglycerols. He was a visiting scientist at Kings College (London, England) developing combinatorial solid phase oligoribonucleotide synthetic methods. Prior to this appointment, Peter was Head of Organic Chemistry at Scotia Pharmaceuticals (Kentville, NS, Canada) where his research examined structure activity relationships. His work in academia and industry has generated well over 20 research publications, two book chapters and co-authorships of three patents.

Jean-Pierre Schoch MSc (Applied Mathematics)

Jean-Pierre Schoch is currently completing a PhD in Mathematics (part-time) at the University of Guelph. He was awarded an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics at Guelph in 1979. Over a three-decade period, Mr. Schoch has carried out research in synthetic and analytical chemistry at Ciba-Geigy, Basel, Switzerland, developed programmes for statistical analysis of biological data at Sandoz Inc., Switzerland, and lectured in mathematics and statistics at the University of Guelph. He also founded and managed a computer software consulting firm and developed software to assist in the evaluation of robotic and other automated systems at General Motors of Canada, Ltd. Mr. Schoch joined GUARD in September 1995 to work on the Dope.de project and has remained with Dope.de since its incorporation in June of 1997.
